Clifford Weedon and Nadia Begum (pictured) became friends after she helped him at a Lloyds branch. However as his eyesight grew worse he must of struggled and sought help from her.

Even though Lloyds conducted an investigation when it found out about their friendship no illegal activity was discovered. Regardless of this Lloyds gave her the sack.

Mr Weedon stated it was absolutely ridiculous to suggest that he was taken advantage of and the banks decision to fire her was horrendous. Furthermore he described her as an angel in disguise, never having met a person like her.

Ms Begum was worried that her career was over thinking she would be unable to find another job, however when Octopus Energy Chief executive Greg Jackson heard her story he immediately knew that they needed to hire her. He described Nadia’s warmth and humanity a perfect fit for the company.

Ms Begum told the BBC she had been “put on a pedestal” at the new company for the same reason she lost her job at the bank. What a lovely way to put it!

Whilst a tribunal was scheduled for next year Ms Begum had already decided not to go ahead with it as she was keen to look towards the future as after 18 months she wants to move on.

Whilst we appreciate that Banks need to have their code of conducts for customer safety and privacy, it seems clear to all involved (even Lloyds) that Nadia’s actions where coming from a kind place and no foul play was at hand in this case.

Hopefully this highlights the lengths Octopus Energy is willing to go to, in order to hire great staff to look after their customers. If you need help from the Nadia and the rest of the great team at Octopus Energy, find out how to contact them here.
